National Instruments Release Their
"M Series" Data Acquisition Cards |
|
|
|
At NI-Week 2004 (Austin, Texas), National Instruments announced the
release of their new generation of Data Acquisition (DAQ) cards -
the M Series. Built on the proven technology of their
highly popular E Series, the new M Series incorporates new system
timing, high sampling rates, extended DIO (including fast
acquisition and control rates), enhanced calibration technologies,
and the inclusion of six DMA channels!
Many plug-in DAQ devices are limited not by their acquisition or
update rates, but by the rate at which they can transfer data to PC
memory. The new M Series devices have six DMA channels, therefore a
single device can perform analog input, analog output, digital
input, digital output, and two counter/timer operations
simultaneously while leaving the PC processor free to execute other
operations such as data scaling, analysis, and control. This is a
giant leap forward in available technology, and means that rather
than populating a PC or PXI rack with several cards, more can be
done simultaneously on one card at a time, lowering the overall cost
of a solution, and minimising the synchronisation and routing done
to signals.
At NVSI, we have enthusiastically embraced the new M Series device
range, and offer it to our customers as part of our integrated
solutions. For more technical information on the M Series from
National Instruments, click

capabilities, please contact

NVSI's Helps Telefriend Get
Connected |
|
|
|
Telefriend is a community based, non-profit, non-religious,
counselling service that offers both face-to-face and free phone
counselling to those in need. Telefriend also offers training
services to professional and student counsellors, equipping them
with the skills they need to help their clients.
As part of our community assistance programme, NVSI assists
community groups to enhance their social capabilities by supporting
their IT needs with our expertise for free. At Telefriend,
NVSI designed and implemented a company-wide PC-based system,
allowing counsellors a method of completing and reviewing
counselling notes and call sheets, networked data sharing, and
on-site backup services. NVSI installed the system (including
network cabling), and assisted with user training.
For more information on Telefriend's support services, visit their
website: www.telefriend.org.
To learn more about our community assistance programme, and how NVSI
is making a difference in the community, please contact
us. NVSI gratefully acknowledges the assistance of Edward
Lipnicki during this community assistance project.

NVSI User Solution - Automated
Object Inspection |
|
|
|
A
leading New Zealand manufacturing company contracted NVSI to provide
a flexible and cost effective vision-based non-destructive method of
detecting course defects on various populated Printed Circuit Boards
(PCBs). NVSI created a proof of concept software
package that performed vision analysis using low cost, commercially
available technology. This
included networking, IEEE-1394 (Firewire™)
cameras and the National Instruments NI-1455 Compact Vision System.
The
system was comprised of two parts:
an Embedded PCB Inspection
System (EPIS) and an Interactive
Terminal PC (ITP).
You can find more information regarding Automated Object
Inspection and other User Solutions on our
website (select "Our
Services", then "Solutions")
