NVSI Paper Performs at National
Instruments Oceania
NI-Week Paper Competition |
|
|
|
We are extremely proud to announce that a paper written by Laurent
Raynal (Technical Specialist), Liam Granger (Senior
Technical Specialist) and Christopher Relf (National
Manager - Australia) have recently been awarded 2nd place in the
National Instruments Oceania NI-Week 2004 Paper Competition.
Titled "50 TON Load Cell Testing System", the paper
describes how NVSI used networked NI hardware to create a
highly-customised system to pattern approval type test load cells at
the National Standards Commission (NSC).
The NSC requested a general improvement
to the load cell and the environmental control parameters, with
database control and comprehensive data logging features, which
proved impossible with currently available low-cost off-the-shelf
solutions. The Load Cell
consists of an Inner Stack containing ten 500kg weights and an Outer
Stack containing ten 150kg weights.
Test loads of 50t are possible as a result of the Balance
Arm, which amplifies the load using a 10:1 ratio when test objects
are placed inside the Large Test Chamber.
The
NVSI solution was written with two LabVIEW RT executables residing
in two separate National Instruments Field Point modules (one
controlling the temperature environment of the chambers, the other
providing control of the motors used to apply the load).
LabVIEW real-time PID controls were used in both of these
Field Point systems. The
LabVIEW database connectivity toolkit was used to communicate to the
NSC SQL server, which stored test profiles and recorded test
results.

NVSI Launches "FlexLog",
our Multi-Purpose
Logging System |
|
|
|
The brainchild of Liam Granger (Senior Technical Specialist)
and Alex Gouliaev (Technical Specialist), the FlexLog
System is the most flexible logging application available in the
market place. Why is it so flexible? Because we can
alter the source code to communicate with virtually all commercially
available sensors, including DAQ based and remote Ethernet units.
Whether environmental monitoring or production process logging, FlexLog
is modular and robust to ensure that your data is acquired,
presented and logged to Microsoft Excel compatible files with an absolute
minimum of user interaction.
FlexLog can be installed in your facility for very little cost
(prices start from $1200) - for an on-site demonstration, please contact
us,
or have a look at the product brochure on our
website (select
"Our Services", then "Solutions")

NVSI History - the Old and the New |
|
|
|
Several customers have asked us to provide some information on who
we are, and where we've come from, so we though we'd add a couple of
paragraphs in this monthly newsletter to let you know a little more
about us...
Neo Vista Pty Ltd (trading as "NVSI") began way back in
the heady technology times of the mid 90s as a group of scientists
and engineers who established (as per their original press release)
"a
new and dynamic company ... to provide premium information
technology consulting services to clients.
This service consists of providing total IT solutions that
encompass technical (hardware and software), quality assurance,
education and training solutions." In early 2003, most of
the directors decide to go their separate ways, and pursue other
interests, so Neo Vista Pty Ltd ceased trading. One of the
original directors (Ralph Dick) decided to continue on the good name
of NVSI, and so opened a new company called Neo Vista System
Integrators Pty Ltd (trading as "NVSI"), and purchase
portions of the IP from the previous company.
NVSI lives on, with the new company adhering to the strict
ideals of the previous company, providing technical and professional
consultancy to clients all over the oceanic region. Our
company now consists of specialists with physics, chemistry,
electrical, electronic and finance majors, and networks with several
strong partners to provide clients with a broad coverage of the
measurement and automation industry.

NVSI to Send Delegation to NI-Week
2004
in
Austin, Texas |
|
|
|
As a National Instruments Certified Alliance Partner, NVSI will
again be represented at NI-Week 2004. National Instruments
10th annual conference and exhibition offers three full days of
exhibition, technical presentations, hands-on workshops, case
studies and panel discussions
Topics covered include cutting edge data acquisition and analysis
and software development techniques. To increase the collaboration
possibilities, experts from more than 50 industry-leading companies
such as NVSI, Mathcad, Edmund Industrial Optics, Texas Instruments,
Roush and Flextronics will be in attendance, and research
professors from top universities (including the University of
Strathclyde, the University of Texas and Rice University) will
speak about model-based predictive control, next-generation wireless
communications and software engineering.
We are again sending a delegation to NI-Week 2004 to ensure that NVSI
remains at the apex of NI-based software and hardware integration in
Australia and New Zealand, and to offer our expertise to others in
attendance.
Places are still available for the conference - for more information on NI-Week 2004, click here. |

Meet
the Staff: Shirley Chester - Quality Manager |
|
|
|
Shirley started her working
life in Pharmacy, gaining her Diploma in Pharmacy Dispensing, and
became involved in microbiological and chemical testing of products,
and waste treatment monitoring. After completing her Certificate of
Science as a Chemistry major, Shirley was an Analytical Team Leader
for 5 years, during which time the department grew from two to nine
staff. Shirley then worked in QA, QC and microbiological testing of
refined edible oil products at Aspak (now Meadowlea NZ), and moved
into warehousing (including forklift license!), then left to become
an Office Manager. As a R&D/Quality Officer, Shirley then
overhauled and computerised the Tegel Foods (NZ) specification
system, and completed her Lead Auditor NATA course.
Upon joining NVSI as our New Zealand Office
Manager, Shirley has finally "seen the light", and is now
an Australian resident, and is enjoying the warmer weather as our
Company Quality Assurance Manager. .
