Further Yourself - LabVIEW User
Groups |
|
|
|
One of the best resources in LabVIEW
knowledge is other LabVIEW users. LabVIEW User Groups (LVUGs)
exist in Australia (unfortunately, none are registered in New
Zealand as yet), and are an invaluable meeting place for like-minded
developers to discuss coding and architecture techniques, view
in-depth presentations by other developers, learn about new products
from National Instruments, and often catch up for a social beer or
two afterwards.
Currently registered LVUGs (and their
moderators) in Australia include:
For more information on a LabVIEW
User Group in your area, click
here. If there isn't a group in your area, why not set one
up? If you're interested in holding a LVUG in your area, check
out this National Instruments Developer
Zone Article (includes a Start-Up Kit to help you on your way).

NVSI Award-Winning User Solution -
National Measurement Institute 50T Load
Cell Compliance Tester |
|
|
|
The
National Standards Commission (NSC) performs pattern approval type
testing on measuring instruments used for trade purposes in
Australia
.
Part of this process involves the use of a 50 Ton Load Cell,
with two temperature controlled chambers, used to test and calibrate
third party load cells. An
International Recommendation (OIML R60 - from the International
Organization of Legal Metrology) prescribes the principal
metrological static characteristics and static evaluation procedures
to follow.
The NSC requested a general improvement to the load
cell and the environmental control parameters, with database control
and comprehensive data logging features, which proved impossible
with currently available low-cost off-the-shelf solutions.
The Load Cell consists of an Inner Stack containing ten 500kg
weights and an Outer Stack containing ten 150kg weights.
Test loads of 50t are possible as a result of the Balance
Arm, which amplifies the load using a 10:1 ratio when test objects
are placed inside the Large Test Chamber.
The NVSI solution
was written with two LabVIEW RT executables residing in two separate
National Instruments Field Point modules (one controlling the
temperature environment of the chambers, the other providing control
of the motors used to apply the load).
LabVIEW real-time PID controls were used in both of these
Field Point systems. The
LabVIEW database connectivity toolkit was used to communicate to the
NSC SQL server, which stored test profiles and recorded test
results.

systems. Similar to NVSI, Endevo have a wide range of
industrial automation experience in industries including medical and
telecommunications, and are strong advocates of new technology in
the automation industry, including advances in Object Orientated (OO)
programming and the increasing use of inheritance. NVSI is extremely

Meet
the Staff: Alex Gouliaev - Sales Manager |
|
|
|
Alex graduated from the University of
Technology, Sydney with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and a
Diploma of Engineering Practice. Alex joined
Online Control, where he developed SCADA systems for the power
industry, and the testing of uninterruptible power supplies.
Joining Telstra/NDC, Alex co-developed an automated network
switching device allocation system.
Alex joined one of our partners,
National Instruments, four years ago as a Field Applications
Engineer and subsequently a Field Sales Engineer where he gained
even more LabVIEW and NI hardware experience from the people who
created it. Looking to move into a project management, sales
and technical role, Alex joined NVSI in 2003 as a Sales Technical
Specialist, and his expert knowledge meant that he quickly rose
through the ranks to recently become our Sales Manager. Alex's
programming expertise includes C, C++, LabVIEW, LabWindows, VB, VBA,
Java, Pascal, Delphi, HTML & assembler.
